Michelle and Asa’s Wedding | Calgary Wedding Photographer

This was a great day. A few twists and turns and changes in plan along the way, but still an awesome day. It was an outdoor wedding, but driving from Calgary to Red Deer, it wasn’t looking too promising the whole way. It was raining in Red Deer, and there were no signs of it letting up. A few phone calls later, and the ceremony was re-located to Billy Bob’s bar. Yup, the bar that the bride and groom had met in, was going to be the place where they would marry. How cool is that? Mad props to Billy Bob’s for being so accommodating. We were scheduled to shoot in there after the ceremony, but to actually have the wedding in there? Well that’s a whole different ball of wax. BB made some changes, pulled a few strings to keep it legit (and legal) and we were performing a wedding in the bar! The first one they’ve ever had.

Now, while this was one of the coolest things I’d heard in a long time, the first thing that came to mind was the light.  I asked about windows; no windows. The light was a little more than challenging. But, with a few (we had 10 minutes to set up) lights on stands, a few changes in the existing light that we could control (think unplug) and some test shots to check colour, we were as ready as we’d ever be. Let’s start the service!

After that, things went much smoother, and we all came away having participated in a really cool wedding, in a bar. I never knew a bride could be so cool calm and collected on her wedding day, but Michelle handled everything with such grace and style. It was amazing. The morning in the Salon was one of many phone calls, emails, Facebook messages and tweets, trying to let everyone know the changes that were happening, as they happened. While this went on, you didn’t sense for a moment stress or worry from the bride. Nothing but calm confidence and surety in the fact that no matter what happened, they were getting married, and it was going to be great. It was. Congratulations you two! You were, are and will be amazing together!
