Great wedding on the family farm. Beautiful setting, beautiful weather and a beautiful couple. So great to be there to photograph it!
This was a great day. A few twists and turns and changes in plan along the way, but still an awesome day. It was an outdoor wedding, but driving from Calgary to Red Deer, it wasn’t looking too promising the whole way. It was raining in Red Deer, and there were no signs of it letting up. A few phone calls later, and the ceremony was re-located to Billy Bob’s bar. Yup, the bar that the bride and groom had met in, was going to be the place where they would marry. How cool is that? Mad props to Billy Bob’s for being so accommodating. We were scheduled to shoot in there after the ceremony, but to actually have the wedding in there? Well that’s a whole different ball of wax. BB made some changes, pulled a few strings to keep it legit (and legal) and we were performing a wedding in the bar! The first one they’ve ever had.
Now, while this was one of the coolest things I’d heard in a long time, the first thing that came to mind was the light. I asked about windows; no windows. The light was a little more than challenging. But, with a few (we had 10 minutes to set up) lights on stands, a few changes in the existing light that we could control (think unplug) and some test shots to check colour, we were as ready as we’d ever be. Let’s start the service!
After that, things went much smoother, and we all came away having participated in a really cool wedding, in a bar. I never knew a bride could be so cool calm and collected on her wedding day, but Michelle handled everything with such grace and style. It was amazing. The morning in the Salon was one of many phone calls, emails, Facebook messages and tweets, trying to let everyone know the changes that were happening, as they happened. While this went on, you didn’t sense for a moment stress or worry from the bride. Nothing but calm confidence and surety in the fact that no matter what happened, they were getting married, and it was going to be great. It was. Congratulations you two! You were, are and will be amazing together!

For way too many reasons to list off, photo-booths rock! In a big way. No, in a huge way! After the dance had started up, I fired up the photo-booth, and it didn’t take long at all before everyone was kicken it, and proving to everyone that indeed, photo-booths ROCK! Shooting a photo-booth is really great cause after a long day of wedding shooting, you get to kick back, relax, and get to know all these great people you’ve been shooting all day. And, you get to make them feel like a rock star. And and and, unlike Karaoke, they can feel like a rock star without causing serious trauma to innocent bi-standers. See, Photo-booths really do Rock!

Here’s quick few from this a wedding this past weekend. Last minute change had the ceremony inside a bar. Billy Bob’s in Red Deer to be exact. Thank goodness for toting speed-lights around. Even with the crazy colours inside, we managed to get some decent pics. More to come, but here are a quick few.

That’s right everybody, you’re reading right. Chocolate Cake Studios is giving away an iPad! This is the hottest item going right now, and for good reason. I’m a nerd, and I could really get going with specs, apps and all the amazing things this little device does. But I won’t. If you’re a face-booker, you’ll love FB on the iPad. In fact any form of social networking is pretty sweet on this thing. If you read (lucky you), you can get get all your favourite books and authors on here. Watch movies, surf the web, write documents and prepare spread sheets. This really is a tablet sized computer that has an incredible user friendly and intuitive interface. Oops, I’m nerding out right now. Okay, I’ll stop.
Full details and rules can be found here, but here’s the gist of the contest. Any family/person who books a session (family, newborn, couple, lifestyle) and that session takes place before September 25th, 2010, will be entered into the draw. We need to have a minimum of 20 entries for the draw to take place. The draw will be broadcast live over the old internet so you can watch and see if you’re the lucky winner! We’ll call you as soon as we make the draw, and maybe even we’ll broadcast that call live too, who knows?
And there you have it! Book early to ensure you get the dates you want, and let’s take some great pictures! (and maybe win an ipad!) To book, simply point your mouse to either the “contact” or “email” tabs above, and you’ll be on your way.
